So, after the pre-release i've noticed 2 interesting black cards that actually made me think about the possibility of making a mono black discard deck..;

[[Quest for the nihil stone]] and [[Mire's Toll]]

We allready have this;

[[Duress]] [[Mind Sludge]] [[Hypnotic Specter]]

And maybe even

[[Mind rot]]

With removal spells,maybe some manlands and maybe even splashing red for burn spells..?

Do you think there's a potential in this kind of deck at the current standard metagame?

Discard can be very powerful and useful, but basing a deck on it can be wasteful. At some point, your opponent won't have a hand left and your discard effects will be nearly dead draws.

You could try using draw effects that put cards into your opponents' hands, then discard them. Prosperity comes to mind for this, but that's not Standard legal.

One great addition to this theme would be Bloodhusk Ritualist. He has a great discard effect, but is also a 2/2 for 2B.

There are a lot of good disruption tools - but that's not the same as a good deck. What would you use for a kill condition? Quest for the Nihil Stone? It seems fragile - and it also seems like decks that go into topdeck mode a few turns in, like WW, Vampires, Boros, and RDW, don't really care about your discard. How would it deal with resolved threats?

That said, you should totally throw it together on MTGO, go a few rounds in the tournament practice room, and write it up. This is good blog fodder.

Win condition? how about Consume Spirit? or mix it up with vampires such as Vampire Nighthawk,Malakir Bloodwitch..? or put in Ob Nixilis?? I think i'll check it on MTGO ;) – Ozzy Feb 1 at 20:49
