Here's question I just dreamed up.

Ok, so lets say my opponent has an Eternity Vessel on the field. And lets give it 14 charge counters.

I have a Vampire Hexmage on the table, my opponent plays a land, activates the Eternity Vessels ability. I sacrifice Vampire Hexmage while the Vessels ability is on the stack, removing the 14 counters. Does that kill my opponent or can he cancel the ability?

I just noticed that Vampire Hexmage also kills planeswalkers. – CodeSavvyGeek Feb 2 at 14:52
Seems unfair that a 2/1 vampire can just kill a planeswalker. Nice catch :) – ripper234 Feb 3 at 9:03

That's not true Ripper theres one small difference:

Eternity Vessel reads "you may"

The ability goes on the stack, but if the counters are removed your opponent can choose not to set his life to zero.

Ah, missed the may part. Pity, it would have been a nice retort. – ripper234 Feb 1 at 19:40
This is another reason that Eternity Vessel kinda sucks. Maybe with Doubling Season? Mais, non. – Krinn Feb 1 at 20:10
Even if it's in response to the ability already being on the stack? That's sort of like pulling a suspended spell out after wards. – DarkMantle Feb 2 at 3:33

The triggered ability always goes on the stack, but the ability includes a "may" clause. The ability's controller will make the choice upon resolution. – CodeSavvyGeek Feb 2 at 14:50
AAAhh, ok, now I see what you mean. – DarkMantle Feb 3 at 14:35

Wow, sweet! :)

It definitely kills your opponent, there's nothing he can do to cancel the ability once it's on the stack. Should be careful of this combo...
