I for myself am a huge fan of Doran - not because of its strength, but because the card is (was) so original. I hated seeing a plane that did the same so soon. It's maybe the same with Mistform Ultimus, but I think that it was enough time to share his ability with others.

As for general popular legends, Nicol Bolas is probably the classic, showing up now and then in the storyline.

I love the time spiral legendary vilians. I think my favorite one was Dralnu.

My personal favorite is probably:

Not really that impressive, but it's the only one with protection from creatures (excluding progenitus) and the flavor's pretty good.

	Yup, unblockability, a great blocker against larger creatures, and poison 2 with a relatively low mana cost makes this an awesome EDH card. – Shushoto♦ Dec 10 at 2:01

Sliver queen is very nice, even outside a sliver deck. I use it in my reanimator deck to generate creature tokens for spells requiring sacrifices.

	Sliver Queen can find uses outside sliver decks as a cheap creature generator, like in my reanimator deck. I think the scenarios in which the Sliver Overlord is useful are more narrow. – CodeSavvyGeek♦ Jan 16 at 15:38

Because Ravnica was the first time I actually sat down and read the novels, Niv-Mizzet is my favorite by a mile. He's a genius, he's a jerkass, and he's spectacularly blue-red.
