I was playing with Hapless Researcher in game, and was about to cast Wormfang Drake in the intention of exiling Hapless and sacrificing it for a draw & discard.

Is it possible?

No, you cannot enjoy the two effects. you can either sacrifice your wizard or remove it from the game to satisfy the drake. the drake's ability triggers when it come into play. you can sacrifice the wizard in response, but than it could not be a candidate for the drake when the ability resolves.

If you target the Hapless researcher and then sacrifice him in response, the drake says, "Wait, my snack's not there? Well I fizzle out then..." and sends himself to the graveyard.

	Sadly, though, the Drake doesn't target. This answer would be accurate if it did, but it doesn't. It just forces you to exile some creature at the moment the ability resolves. – Alextfish Jul 21 at 13:39
