<p>Earlier today, one of my friends proposed this hypothetical scenario: Say your opponent plays [[[Gideon Jura]]] and uses his third ability to turn him into a 6/6 planeswalker creature (with 6 loyalty). Normally, Gideon can't be dealt damage in this state...but what would happen if you had an effect that suppressed damage prevention, and hit Gideon with a direct-damage spell? Would he take twice the effect of the spell, or would he take different kinds of damage (creature damage versus loyalty loss) depending on whether he's being targeted as a creature or a player?</p> <p>Some specific scenarios:</p> <p>1) You play [[[Flaring Pain]]] and [[[Fault Line]]] with X=2.<br> 2) Same as above, but X=3.</p> <p>My assumption is that he takes different kinds of damage based on how he's being targeted, so Gideon would survive both #1 and #2.</p> <p>(Bonus question: what happens if you play [[[Demonfire]]] with X=6 and hellbent, targeting your opponent, and then redirect the damage, targeting Gideon as a player? Does Gideon go to the graveyard, because you targeted him as a player; or to exile, because he's also a creature even though he was targeted as a player? <p>I'm planning on running a Zendikar/Worldwake Sealed tournament with some friends this weekend. Should the six packs be 4 Zendikar and 2 Worldwake, or 3 Zendikar and 3 Worldwake? <p>I love spoilers but I also love guessing. We are still very far from knowing what kind of cards will appear in worldwake, what kind of mechanics and what will they revolve around and what will happen in the zendikar plot. </p> <p>Still I wanna post what we do know so we could start guessing. </p> <p>-This is the final set for the land block in terms of drafting, drafts will go ZZW. </p> <p>-Mark Rosewater said kicker will appear in Worldwake but will contain a new twist. </p> <p>-The set after Worldwake will be Rise of the Al-Drazi and will be drafted with only one set, it will still occur on zendikar</p> <p>-Recent webcomics have shown that Satkhan Vol is on Zendikar and is crazy. Also Jace was hired to keep whatever Chandra is looking for a secret so he plans to go to Zendikar to stop her. So far blocks containing planewalkers had 5 of them, so we will probably see at least one planeswalker in Worldwake or possibly in Rise of the Al-Drazi. </p> <p>-The Al-Drazi built the Hedrons and most of the advanced ruins in Zendikar, the set is called worldwake so they will probably all become active chaning the world of zendikar fundemently in some fashion. </p> <p>Thats all I got for now, guess away!</p>

<p>I don't understand why some people think this card is so good.</p> <p>Lands are about 45% of most decks. So (without any library manipulation techniques) you have:</p> <ul> <li>55% chance of drawing one card for 2 mana</li> <li>25% chance of drawing one nonland card &amp; one land</li> <li>11% chance of drawing two nonlands and one land</li> <li>5% chance of drawing three nonlands and one land</li> <li>...</li> </ul> <p>The expected (= average) number of nonland cards you'll get is about 0.8 cards, if I'm not mistaken: </p> <blockquote> <p>1-1/(0.55) = 0.8</p> </blockquote> <p>So, looking at it like this, 2 mana for an average of 1.8 cards is not bad. However, the average return is not the whole story. After all, if a spell would give you 0 cards 90% of the times and 20 cards 10% of the times, it wouldn't be very good, even though the average number of cards it draws is 2. Most (55%) of the time, this card simply wastes two mana to get another card which will not be a land.
